I just attended a seminar where Mark Suster (Accenture & BuildOnline) was giving a talk.
There were a couple things that jumped out at me while listening to Mark's talk and I just thought I would quickly share.
One big thing he said that caught my attention was that being an entrepreneur is "not sexy".
This is contradictive to what an aspiring entrepreneur sees when they aspire to be entrepreneur.
All the entrepreneurs I have come to admire are essentially living a dream lifestyle.
They take vacations to different countries whenever they want, they call all the shots in their business, but they make their own hours, and basically are making money while they sleep.
Mark harped on the actual fact that being an entrepreneur is stressful.
You work long hours, you have to compete with many other people, you might have to sell your company, and more importantly, you will fail.
This reality is better known before jumping into something, because now it can be expected, rather than believing that what we read in magazines about the popular entrepreneurs will always work out for everyone.
The second thing he said that struck me was to take the first leap if you are really passionate.
There are many people who sit around and talk.
Talk some more.
Then later on, they continue to talk.
But they never DO.
Mark even provided incentive telling us that he actually had the thought of starting eBay long before eBay was created.
But he didn't act.
Someone else did it before he built up the nerve to take the leap, and now they are reaping the rewards, and he is left with the "what-ifs".
So don't wait, act now.
Your idea could be the best idea in the world.
But until you get out an actually start doing stuff, it will simply remain the best idea in the world.
Also, it does not take an entire team to make an idea into reality.
It doesn't even take two people.
All you need is yourself and your passion.
