Holidaying on a Shoestring - Get Back to Basics and Enjoy the Good Life in a Wagon or Caravan
When it came to choosing holidays, there used to be very little middle ground between old fashioned style camping and luxurious villas.
People on something of a budget would have to accept that their summer holiday would be under canvas, and although fun, anything but luxurious.
Nowadays however there is a vast choice and more and more people are opting for the new thing: glamping.
Glamping is virtual camping, but with luxury, facilities and style thrown in for good measure.
Yurt holidays are classic glamping holidays, but if you want to think even more outside the box then a stay in a wagon or old fashioned caravan could be the way forward for a holiday which you will love, and the kids will simply adore.
Or the chance to cosy up with your loved one in a secluded spot without spending a fortune.
A number of people have bought and restored old Showman's Wagons, and made them charming and cosy spots for a romantic holiday / break.
Showman's wagons and Gypsy caravans tend not to be able to accommodate many people however.
If you thought you'd never be able to cope with the idea of a holiday in a caravan park; think again.
How about a holiday in an old US airstream caravan - rescued from a travelling magician in Nevada before the desert swallowed it up? Or a British holiday caravan dating back to the 1960's, complete with vintage interiors and on site facilities? A holiday in a wagon or caravan might sound pretty quirky, but don't write it off until you've tried it.
If you're holidaying in the UK, it offers you a bit of extra protection should the weather turn bad; there's always space in an Airstream for a game of cards and you won't get soggy if you sit on the floor! Once again, if you search hard enough you'll probably be able to find what you're after.
If it's isolation and privacy, then a single wagon or caravan in a secluded spot is just for you - perhaps with the option of pitching a tent next to the caravan to accommodate the kids, dog or belongings.
If you want the chance to mingle with like minded souls, then a site housing a dozen airstream caravans, perhaps a bar, a swimming pool and a little shop could be the perfect choice.
Frankly, getting away these days is crucial for our sanity - sometimes swapping like for like (ie house for a house, both with internet connections and sky TV) is not the way to encourage proper relaxation / downtime.
But heading off on a holiday like this, with only the weather to worry about, you'll feel like you've journeyed for many miles away from normal life - even if you are in a static caravan!
