How to Calculate Cubic Box Volume
- 1). Measure the internal height, width and length of the box. A true cube has equal height, width and length, but other rectangular shapes have different dimensional values. Measure all the dimensions using the same units.
- 2). Find the volume of the box using the formula volume equals height by width by length. For example, the volume of a box 10 cm high, 12 cm wide and 20 cm long is 10 by 12 by 20, or 2,400 cubic cm. Find the volume of a cube by cubing the length of its sides. For example, the volume of a cube with a 4-cm side length is 4 by 4 by 4, or 64 cubic cm.
- 3). Check for errors by reversing the calculation. Divide the volume by the height times the width. If the result is not equal to the length, there was an error in the calculations.
