How to Measure kPa
- 1). Read the barometer at the top of the mercury column. This measurement is in millimeters.
- 2). Set up the conversion calculation, starting with the reading in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). Multiply this number by 101.3 kPa over 760 mmHg. This will convert the mmHg to atmospheres (atm), then to kPa. The values 760 mmHg, 101.3 kPa and 1 atm are all equal to each other.
- 3). Calculate the pressure noting the position of the units. The units should cancel to give an answer in kPa.
- 4). Divide the answer by 1000 to convert the answer from kilopascals (kPa) to pascals (Pa), if needed.
