Size of Bullnose Tile
- For many countertop installations where standard 4-by-4-inch or 6-by-6-inch tiles are used, the bullnose size of choice is a 2-by-4 bullnose. At 2 inches wide and 4 inches in length, the bullnose edge is applied along the length of the piece so that it can be placed on the edge of the countertop and wrap the outer edges to create a finished look and feel. Normal bullnose edges are available, as are cap pieces where the bullnose edge wraps down 2 inches around the face of the countertop.
- In commercial settings that have 4-by-4-inch tiles, such as in airport bathrooms, convenience store walls, supermarket walls and otherwise, the bullnose of choice is a 4-by-4 tile bullnose. The same shape and size as regular 4-by-4 tiles, the bullnose edging is applied to one side of the piece so that it can be used in either a vertical or horizontal setting simply by turning the tile one way or the other to suit the needs of the installation.
- The traditional size for most commercial floors in restaurants is an 8-by-8 quarry tile. You can find 8-inch quarry tile in walk-in freezers as well as kitchens and meat-cutting rooms in supermarkets across the nation, and 8-inch bullnose tile is sold along with the regular field tiles for use wherever the tile installations terminate. Only one edge of the tile is bullnosed, which means you can turn it in any direction based upon the installation.
- Common in custom jobs such as Jacuzzi wraps or tub surrounds where a capstone bullnose is preferred rather than a regular tile bullnose, 2-by-12 bullnose caps can come in a range of styles depending on what you want to use. However, the standard size for custom cap pieces for use in bathroom settings is 2-by-12 inches, and rather than be installed on the horizontal surface overlapping the vertical face, the caps are installed on the top row of the vertical face, with the horizontal pieces flushing out with them.
