Gothic Hairstyles for Girls
- For women, Goth style rejects or modifies traditional "girly" aspects such as pink clothes, natural hair and rouged cheeks. Gothic literature from the 19th century glamorized death and decay, inspiring the rise of Gothic culture in the 1980s. Goth hairstyles are often dyed black or have chunks of color. Modern Goth looks for women are generally sexy and seductive as opposed to punk cuts, which are more androgynous.
- Long, flowing hair is dyed black and can be straightened or curled in ringlets to achieve this look. Variations on this look include dying the hair silver or using fake hair extensions to add length and pops of color. Homemade extensions can be made by sewing hair clips to hair wefts and clipping them into hair.
- The hair is cut short and jagged and is died black or deep colors such as violet and red. Variations include spiking bits of the hair or using molding wax to add texture and take the sharp, jagged look a step further.
- Hair is cut to chin-length or slightly longer and the bangs are cut either straight across or in a blunt v-shape coming to a point between the brows. Hair can be trimmed around the nape of the neck and become longer toward the face as in a traditional bob, or with slightly longer hair, girls may curl the hair into ringlets, leaving the bangs straight. This style can be dyed in a bright or deep color or dyed black.
- To achieve a look similar to the bride of Frankenstein, women can tease hair to become textured and full on top of the head. For a more glamorous version, women can curl ringlets in the front and create a sleek bouffant on the top of their head with the bulk of their hair. For a messier look, the hair can be teased with back combing and a lot of hairspray.
