Design

• Safety glasses are designed specifically with protection in mind. The lenses are resistant to both shattering and objects striking them. Side barriers provide further protection from airborne debris. Safety glasses provide protection that normal prescription lenses cannot.

• Eye injuries cause major expense, which OSHA estimates at more than $300 million annually. Hospital visits, surgery and treatment expenses can add up quickly for both the employer and worker. Wearing safety glasses can greatly reduce these costs.
  
  

Communicable Diseases

• If you work in the health care industry, wearing eye protection is essential. Sickness can spread when body fluids come in contact with the eyes. The Centers for Disease Control recommend wearing eye protection to prevent infection.
  
  

Flying Debris

• Saws, sanders and many yard tools can hurl debris towards the eyes. Small particles of rocks and dirt move at high speeds when thrown by machinery and can easily injure. Safety glasses can block flying debris and protect your eyes.
  
  

Goggles

• Goggles offer the best protection for the eyes. They surround these eyes on all sides and are better able to deflect debris and sparks. Use ones that are vented to keep them from fogging up and that fit tight to the face. OSHA recommends that workers wear goggles in conjunction with a face shield to get the most benefit.
