Often, whales can be spotted from the "Pali highway" to Lahaina.
Here is a very important "don't.
" Don't suddenly slow down, or stop to check out the whales while driving.
Many accidents, and near misses, have occurred due to that very reason.
Do signal your intent, and then pull over when it's safe to do so.
Take your time to fully enjoy the whales, or the beautiful waterfalls, or the spectacular sunset.
Drive as you would back home, in full control of your senses.
It will be appreciated by the locals who live here, and drive those scenic roads to and from work daily.
It could even save you from an accident which could ruin your vacation.
Locals understand that you're on vacation.
They are so glad you chose to come to Maui.
However, walking around town wearing only a swimsuit, or bikini isn't acceptable.
No, not even in laid-back Paia town, or Lahaina is that a good idea.
If you feel it's absolutely too hot to wear even shorts and a top, you may want to consider wearing a cover up over that swimsuit.
Think about what you would do if you were at home.
Would you wear that to shop, or go to a restaurant, or to sight see (unless you live in Venice Beach)? There's a good chance that a "no-no" back home is also a "no-no" on Maui.
Likewise, guys, please wear a shirt over those board shorts when you go walking around town.
