How to Be Popular in High School

7
    • 1). As cliché as it sounds, you must be yourself in order to gain any real popularity in high school. While imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, copying another’s style and personality will have a negative effect on your popularity. If you’re not comfortable enough to be yourself 100 percent of the time, others won’t feel comfortable around you. Resist the urge to voice opinions that aren’t your own or engage in activities that you know are wrong just to impress others. If you establish your own style and finesse and stay true to yourself, popularity will soon follow.

    • 2). Make yourself approachable to appeal to others and be popular in high school. People love to be around others who are confident and ready to have a good time. If you spend your day looking at the ground with your shoulders hunched over and a frown on your face, you won’t send the message to others that you’re friendly and sociable. Hold your head up high, keep your shoulders back, and smile as you walk with an air of confidence to instantly attract others and boost your popularity.

    • 3). Be friendly and kind to everyone you meet. It’s not enough to gain the approval of the other popular students in your school. In order to gain genuine popularity, you’ll need to be kind and courteous to everyone you meet. If you find it hard to be friendly to unpopular students or students whose families may not make a lot of money, your popularity will not last. Make an effort to talk to your classmates regardless of their popularity or economic status and try to foster friendships with them. The more people you appeal to, the more popular you’ll become.

    • 4). Involve yourself in school activities that interest you. You can be popular in high school if you play an active role in your school’s extracurricular activities. Whether your interests lie in athletics, your school newspaper or the yearbook committee, get involved and become a local celebrity in your high school. The more you participate in group activities, the more popular you’ll become.

    • 5). Don’t try too hard. If the more popular students think you’re trying to steal their thunder, they may do whatever it takes to belittle your good intentions. Try to become more popular without making it too obvious. Taking on more responsibility than you can handle, throwing parties every weekend and trying to increase your friendship pool by spreading gossip about others will send up a red flag to everyone that you’re trying too hard. Instead of trying to gain instant popularity, try to win a few students over at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be popular.
