How to Hang Bird Houses
- 1). Measure how low you want the birdhouse to hang. The house shouldn't hang too far from a tree branch because it can sway in wind. Hang it on a branch that is slightly farther from other branches to help protect the house. FamilyParentingKids.com recommends hanging a birdhouse at least 10 feet above ground. The height makes it harder for predators to reach the birds.
- 2). Cut a piece of rope the length you want the birdhouse to hang plus about 1 foot.
- 3). Knot one end of the rope to the birdhouse hook. The birdhouse's hole should face away from the tree for easy access and to keep squirrels and other predators out.
- 4). Tie the other end of rope around the middle of a tree limb, wrapping the rope around the limb at least twice.
