How to Install a Car Radio In a 1999 Ford Escort
- 1). Remove the negative battery cable from the negative terminal on the Ford battery with a 10 millimeter wrench. Place the negative battery cable away from the Ford battery until installation is complete.
- 2). Insert the Ford release keys into the openings on either side of the face of the stereo. Pull outward on the tools while simultaneously pulling the stereo from the dashboard. Pull the stereo from the dashboard until you can reach the wiring connections in the rear of the radio.
- 3). Disconnect the wiring to the back of the Ford stereo. Pull the wire groupings from the radio by their white plastic binders.
- 4). Connect the wiring from the Ford to the wiring harness adapter. Insert the universal face plate into the stereo mounting bracket of the Ford. Feed the wiring harness adapter, through the back of the face plate, to connect to the new stereo.
- 5). Connect the leads of the wiring harness adapter to the back of the new radio. The leads on the adapter will be clearly marked with abbreviations or color codes to show where the proper connections are made.
- 6). Slide the new stereo into the mounting dock via the new face plate. Push the radio into the dash until its face is flush with the trim of the face plate adapter.
- 7). Place the negative battery cable onto the negative battery lead. Use the 10 millimeter wrench to tighten the cable onto the negative lead post.
