Athlete's foot is actually an infection, caused by something called 'Trichophyton'.
In the United States, it's actually been said that Tinea pedis, which is the official name for Athletes foot, is the second most common skin diseases, just after Acne.
Athlete's foot is also usually caught from clothes such as socks or the actual floor you walk on.
In many cases, it's caught by sharing towels or walking barefoot on a surface that has been walked on multiple times.
If you feel that your feet are burning or that the skin on your feet are peeling away, chances are you may have Athletes foot.
Treatment for Athlete's foot doesn't have to be stressful, as by simply going through steps towards making your feet less prone to receive infection, such as sorting out warts of covering up plasters, initially keeps the foot area clean and this is what you want do, to prevent Athletes foot.
It usually takes up to four weeks for the infection to clear up after receiving medication from your general practitioner.
In this time, make sure that you use fresh, clean towels each time you wash and don't hit the swimming baths, as the infection is a communicable disease.
Disinfecting your bathroom floor and making sure your feet are dry from a shower or bath can really help in the prevention of obtaining Athlete's foot as well.
