Stop Your Puppy From Biting The Easy Way

17
Nipping is a normal part of puppy development, just as with human babies, puppies explore the world with their mouths.
Although this nipping is normal, it's very important that you stop your puppy from biting.
The first step is to teach your puppy to inhibit biting.
Normally during the first four months of his life, a puppy learns to inhibit biting from their mother and other litter mates.
As we generally take them away from their family before the training is complete, the puppies new owner needs to complete this training.
Socializing your puppy with other dogs and puppies is a great way to naturally continue the training.
When they  play together rolling and tumbling over each other, they will also nip each other.
Learning to control themselves and inhibit their biting naturally.
When they forget and get too rough, the other dogs will react appropriately.
This teaches your puppy by experience, through his own trial and error.
There is no better training than this.
Socialization won't just stop puppy biting, it will also teach him not fear other dogs.
This is important, as fear is a common reason for a dogs aggression towards other dogs.
It's also a great way to burn off all that youthful exuberance.
Puppies that play with other dogs wont treat you or your family like litter mates, as they have an outlet for all that boundless puppy energy.
They are also less destructive and not as hyperactive.
Once you have taken care of the socialization side of the stop a puppy from biting training, the next step is to work on building trust and respect.
Trust and respect could be the topic for a whole article but suffice to say that any relationship of value, whether it's animal or human has trust and respect as it's foundation.
Trust and respect go hand in hand, if you puppy doesn't trust you, he will never respect you.
If he doesn't respect you, you will never be able to teach your puppy anything.
One of things we humans value most in our dogs is their unconditional love.
Your dog will love you even if you mistreat him, but he will never trust and respect you.
Never hit, kick or slap your puppy.
There is no faster way to lose his trust.
Don't scold him, he doesn't speak human.
If your puppy nips you, react with loud high-pitched "ouch", loud enough to startle your puppy.
This how dogs let each other know that the bite was too hard (pretend even if was just a nip).
Then ignore your puppy for a few minutes, after wards make up on your terms not puppy's.
Teach you family and visitors to react the same way, every time the puppy nips.
Any inconsistency will sabotage the training.
Puppy will never understand why it's OK to nip some times and not at other times.
Puppies like all children, love attention if you yelp and then ignore the puppy, they will quickly learn that if they want your attention or to play with people they can't nip or bite.
Never allow puppy to mouth your fingers, even though it might seem cute and affectionate in a puppy, you are just encouraging puppy to bite.
Finally offer opportunities for your puppy to play safely with other dogs.
Have everyone react the same way to every nip, never allow your puppy to mouth your fingers and you'll successfully stop your puppy from biting
