Instructions to Make Bullion Roses

9
    • 1). Hold the pleated fabric in your off hand. Start to make the center knot of the rose across two pleats with the dark pink or red colored thread by inserting the needle on the left underside of the first or right pleat and pulling it through, bringing the thread through the fabric. Insert the needle on the right side of the second or left pleat, horizontally through the two pleats of the fabric with the sharp point of the needle facing the left pleat where the thread is coming through the fabric.

    • 2). Poke the point of the needle through the fabric and wrap the thread clockwise eight times around the needle point. Push the thread down onto the needle, making the wraps snug and tight against each other. Place your thumb on the wrapped thread and hold it in place as you slowly pull the needle through. Hold the wraps against the fabric to keep them together and gently pull up as you pull the thread through the wraps. Let go of the wraps once you have pulled the needle and thread all the way through them. Insert the needle into the valley of the right pleat and pull it through to finish making the bullion knot. Tie off the thread.

    • 3). Thread the light pink or light red colored thread onto the needle. Insert the needle under the two pleats and the center bullion knot at an upwards angle. Push the needle point (not the entire needle) through the next pleat to the left of the first two pleats. Wrap the thread 12 times around the point of the needle. Hold the wrapped thread down on the needle with your thumb and carefully pull the needle through the wraps. Insert the needle into the right pleat of the center knot and pull it through to the back of the fabric to bring the bullion across three pleats and make it sit up against the bottom of the center knot. The light pink or red thread bullion knot will create a half circle petal around the bottom left side of the dark pink or red bullion knot, which is the center of the rose.

    • 4). Insert the needle into the right pleat at a downward angle and poke the point through the pleat that is underneath the end of the first light pink or red bullion knot rose petal. Wrap the thread 12 times around the point of the needle, hold the wraps down with your thumb and pull the needle through the wraps. Insert the needle through the pleat under the end of the adjacent rose petal bullion knot and pull it through to the back of the fabric.

    • 5). Insert the needle into the right pleat and a downward angle and poke it through the pleat underneath the end of the second light pink or red bullion knot rose petal. Wrap the thread 12 times around the needle, hold the wraps down with your thumb and pull the needle through the wraps. Insert the needle through the pleat under the end of the adjacent rose petal bullion knot and pull it through to the back of the fabric. Continue making bullion knot petals in the same way until the petals surround the center rose knot until you have made five petals around the center knot.
