How to Rewrap a Fishing Rod
- 1). Insert the tip of the knife or box cutter blade under the old thread, with the sharp side facing upward.
- 2). Cut the thread, pulling up slightly as it cuts through, to avoid digging into the rod itself.
- 3). Unravel the thread from the rod and place the rod guides in a safe place.
- 1). Position the guide on the rod and secure both guide feet near the line guide loop with a double layer of masking tape.
- 2). Loop the thread around the rod.
- 3). Cross the cut end of the thread under the spool end, keeping the cut end pointed toward the rod guide.
- 4). Loop the spool end around the rod, covering the cut end of the thread. Tighten the thread by pushing the loop toward the previous loop while pulling the spool end taut.
- 5). Repeat Step 4 until the loops reach the masking tape.
- 6). Remove the masking tape. Lay a loop of nylon or cut wrapping thread over the wrapped thread, with the loop end pointing toward the rod guide.
- 7). Loop the spool end around the rod, tightening as you go. Continue looping until you reach the end of the rod guide foot.
- 8). Cut the guide thread, leaving 2 inches of excess on the end.
- 9). Push the thread through the nylon loop and pull the loop to pull the thread through the wrap.
- 10
Push the wrap backwards to tighten it and then cut the excess thread away. - 11
Repeat Steps 1 to 10 for every foot on each rod guide you are re-wapping.
