How to Connect a Mac Laptop to a Cell Phone Modem
- 1). Connect the USB data cable to your wireless phone. This data cable is going to plug into the power port you use to charge the device. Plug the other end of the cable into an available USB port on the computer.
- 2). Click on the blue Apple icon in the upper-left hand corner. From the drop-down menu, select "System Preferences."
- 3). Click "Network" in "System Preferences." The Macbook is going to scan your system to see what networks are available to you. Once the Macbook has detected your wireless phone you are going to be greeted with a pop-up window stating a new port has been detected.
- 4). Download and install the wireless modem driver for your phone. There is a link in "Resources" that has a series of different drivers. If you do not see one, you can go to your wireless phone's manufacturer's website and download the drivers directly from the site.
- 5). Open the Finder and type "Library" in the search box. Open the Library folder, followed by "Modem Scripts." Click and drag the driver you downloaded into this window.
- 6). Return back to "Network" in "System Preferences." Click your phone as the default modem.
- 7). Click "PPP" and type in the account name, password and telephone number of your Internet Service Provider (this is given to you when you first create your Internet account).
- 8). Accept the changes and you are free to start surfing the Web with your wireless phone as the modem.
