How to Do Worm Grunting

14
    • 1). Sharpen one end of a 2 inch-by-2 foot wood stick or dowel to a point with a heavy knife.

    • 2). Find an area you believe will contain earthworms. Generally worms favor dark, moist soil. Wooded areas are more likely to hide worms than dry areas.

    • 3). Drive the pointed end of the sharpened stake into the ground with a mallet or maul.

    • 4). Rub the flat surface of the strap iron over the top of the stake. The friction between the iron and wood causes both an audible grunting sound and low frequency vibrations in the soil.

    • 5). Gather the worms as they emerge and begin to crawl. Worms will rise from the earth as far as 30 feet away from the stake. Put the worms you gather in a tin can.
