Crafts Using Shrink Film

38
    • If you're looking for a craft to make your kids, use shrink film, also known as cling wrap or shrink wrap, to make an inexpensive toy or piece of artwork. You can buy shrink film in a variety of colors from the grocery store or your local craft supply store if you don't have some stored away in a kitchen cabinet or drawer.

    Paint It

    • Create a colorful collage or painting using shrink film. Cut a large piece of shrink wrap off the roll and bundle it up. Wrap a rubber band around the end to bundle it up, and then dip the plastic in paint for an unusual paint brush. For a more contemporary paint project, keep the shrink film unbundled, and scrunch it up in your hand to create a textured brush. Move the plastic around as you work to create different effects.

    Make Binoculars

    • If your child's an explorer at heart, use shrink film to make binoculars. Use two left over cardboard toilet paper rolls or one paper towel roll, cut in half, to make the basis of your binoculars. Let your child decorate the outside with crayons, markers, glitter and other art supplies. Then cover the end of each roll with a piece of shrink film, and hold it in place with a rubber band. Glue the two rolls together to complete the project. For a more colorful look out on the world, make cut out several lens out of different colors of shrink film. Switch out the original shrink film pieces periodically to give kids an unusual look at the world.

    Go Under the Sea

    • Take a trip under the sea by making a sea or aquarium craft. Color and cut out fishy figures and attach them to the inside side of a paper plate. Color the plate blue, if you want, before you add your fish for a watery effect. Once your sea scene is complete, cut out the center of a second paper plate. Replace the center with a piece of shrink film. You can use blue shrink film for an added look. Then, glue the plate with the shrink film on top of the other paper plate to create an aquarium or look into the sea.

    Create a Kaleidoscope

    • If you child's fascinated by light and color, create a kaleidoscope using shrink wrap. Get an empty paper towel roll and a plastic report cover. Cut an 8-by-4 inch piece of plastic out of the report cover and fold it into thirds, creating a triangle. Tape the triangle to hold it together and stick it inside your paper towel roll. Cut out a circle of construction paper and tape it to one end, punching a small hole in the middle through which your child will see. Then place a piece of plastic shrink film over the other end of the roll, creating a pouch. Stick colored beads, confetti and other objects on top of the plastic. Put a piece of wax paper over top and hold it in place with a rubber band to complete your kaleidoscope.
