How to Winterize an Outdoor Faucet
- 1). Disconnect hoses or extra pieces from the outdoor faucet to allow excess water to drain.
- 2). Turn off the valve for the outdoor faucet. It's usually in the basement or crawl space of a house.
- 3). Open the outdoor faucet handle to drain the water from the pipe. A good amount of water may flow out at first, but it should die down after a few seconds. If it doesn't subside, recheck the water valve.
- 4). Leave the faucet handle turned on through the winter.
