Radiocontrast-Induced Thyroid Dysfunction
Radiocontrast-Induced Thyroid Dysfunction
Injection of large amount of radiocontrast agents in healthy individuals triggers small increase in free T4 and free T3 concentrations. There is a small decrease followed by an increase within normal limits in TSH. In susceptible persons, however, alterations in laboratory test results can be often seen not before weeks or months of radiocontrast administration. The serum thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase antibodies are usually present in patients with underlying thyroid autoimmunity.
