How to Install Moulding on a Cathedral Ceiling
- 1). Run a tape measure from the beginning of the first wall on the left-hand side of the room to the first angle. Record the measurement and line a protractor up to the first corner to get the exact angle measurement.
- 2). Turn the first piece of crown molding upside down and slide it into the miter saw so the bottom of the crown is up against the fence of the saw and the top of the crown is along the base. Mark on the crown where you need to make the cut and turn the blade of the saw left to half of the degree measurement.
- 3). Line the blade up with the mark and pull straight down through the crown to make the proper cut. Measure from the first angle to the second and mark on the crown. Slide it into the saw and turn the blade to the same degree in the opposite direction of the first cut. This will allow the two cuts to butt together to form the complete angle. Cut the crown the same way you cut the first piece.
- 4). Measure the third angle and cut half of that on the same piece where you made the second cut. Start a new piece for the fourth angle and cut it in the exact same manner once you have recorded the measurements. Continue around the ceiling, measuring and making the proper cuts until you have cut everything out.
- 5). Line up the first piece along the beginning of the wall and insert a finishing nail with a pneumatic nailer to install the crown to the ceiling. Add a nail every six inches down the first piece and continue installation around the entire ceiling in the same manner until everything is complete.
- 6). Caulk over all of the nail holes with silicone sealant. Inspect the area to make sure you have installed everything properly and have properly butted the joints together.
