High-Protein Diet Plan Foods
- Protein is an important source of energy in our bodies since it is made of amino acids, which repair body tissues. Typically, protein should make up around 10 percent of our diets, but high-protein dieters should make protein 30 percent of their diet. Popular high-protein foods include beans and vegetables, poultry and fish, beef and pork, eggs and dairy, and nuts and seeds. There are also many vegetarian foods that are high in protein for those who choose not to make meat a part of their diet.
- Beans and vegetables, like tofu and soybeans, can provide you with almost 20 g of protein in just one serving. Some high-protein diet foods in this category include baked beans, soy milk, kidney beans, lima beans, white beans, lentils, peas, potatoes, sweet potatoes and spinach.
- Not only are poultry and fish healthy diet choices, they are full of protein. Just one 3.5 oz. chicken breast has more than 30 g of protein. Chicken thighs, wings, drumsticks and other chicken meat have between 10 g and 40 g of protein per serving. Fish, like tuna and fish fillets, can have 40 g to 100 g of protein per serving.
- Although not the healthiest choices, beef and pork pack a lot of protein. Incorporate beef and pork products like bacon, pork chops, ground pork, ham, pork loin or tenderloin, sausages, lunch meat, corned beef, hamburger patty and steak into your high-protein diet, as these foods typically have between 5 g and 30 g of protein per serving.
- Any high-protein diet should contain eggs and dairy products. Be sure to consume low-fat dairy products. Eggs, milk, yogurt and cheese all have about 10 g of protein per serving.
- Nuts and seeds are a great snack food for high-protein dieters. Peanut butter, pumpkin seeds, pecans, cashews, almonds, peanuts and sunflower seeds are your best bets, as they have 5 g to 10 g per serving.
- It may seem hard for vegetarians to follow a high-protein diet, but vegetarians can enjoy foods like chow mein noodles, brown rice, veggie burgers, whole wheat bread, pasta, peanut butter, cornmeal, tofu, oats, and fruits and vegetables.
