    • 1). Remove the tiles or linoleum from the floor. Remove any fixtures that may be in the way. Drill a hole through the section of floor that needs replacing using the drill and an auger bit. Determine the thickness of the floor using the tape measure. Set the depth of the circular saw to the same depth as the floor thickness.

    • 2). Cut the floor away that needs replacing using the circular saw. Go beyond the damage at least one foot to be sure that you remove it all. Note that when you cut the old floor away, you must have half of the thickness of the floor joists on either side to install the new sub-floor.

    • 3). Make sure the joists are free of any debris such as dirt, screws and nails. Cut the ¾-inch plywood to the proper length and width using the circular saw. Screw the floor into place using the drill, screwdriver bit, and wood screws. Cover the floor with the new finish flooring such as tiles or linoleum.
