Air Force Basic Training: Physical Requirements
- Since November 2008, Air Force basic training has lasted for an 8 1/2 week period. This is a 2 week increase from the previous program, with added focus on physical training to better match the standards of other U.S. armed services.
- The bare minimum for a man to pass Air Force Basic Military Training is to be able to run 1 1/2 miles in 11 minutes, 57 seconds; do 45 push-ups in 1 minute; and perform 50 sit-ups in 1 minute.
- To pass Air Force Basic Military Training, women must be able to run 1 1/2 miles in 14 minutes, 21 seconds; do 27 push-ups in 1 minute; and perform 50 sit-ups in 1 minute.
- Failing the test, but coming close to passing, means that the trainee is allowed to try a second time the next day. Failing again, or gross failure in the first attempt, means washing out of Air Force Basic Military Training.
- To encourage trainees to do their best, the Air Force rewards performance beyond the minimum with an extra off-base pass for after graduation. To meet this "warhawk" standard, a male recruit must run 1 1/2 miles in 8 minutes and 55 seconds; do 65 push-ups in 1 minute; do 70 sit-ups in 1 minute; and do 10 pull-ups in 1 minute.
