How to Grow Grand Rapids Lettuce Indoors
- 1). Fill containers with a top-quality potting mix. Use only pots, trays or containers that are at least 4 inches deep with drainage holes and drainage trays.
- 2). Sow Grand Rapids lettuce seeds 1/4 inch deep every 1 to 2 inches. Use a spray bottle to dampen the soil without displacing the seeds.
- 3). Place the containers in a warm location and check the soil daily. Spray the soil with water as needed to maintain a moist environment until seedlings emerge in a week or more.
- 4). Move the containers to a location with full sunlight for several hours daily, like a south-facing window. Turn the pots if the seedlings do not get light evenly.
- 5). Thin the lettuce seedlings to one plant every 4 to 6 inches, or one per pot once the seedlings reach 3 inches tall. Replant the extra seedlings or use them in a salad.
- 6). Check the soil daily and water it to maintain moist, but not soaked, soil throughout the growing season.
- 7). Apply a balanced fertilizer diluted at half-strength weekly for three weeks.
