When your nose and throat produce excess phlegm it is known as post nasal drip.
Generally throat gets dampened by the discharge from the nose and the mucus that aids in defending the body from infections.
Still, when the production of liquid by in your sinuses gets decreased, the mucus thickens and it becomes hard to eliminate, that is why it is very important to use some sort of post nasal drip treatments as soon as you feel the first symptoms.
Most of the symptoms like headache, nausea and stomach pain occur because of this problem.
The causes can be numerous, it can be just an allergic reaction or an indication of serious illness.
The irritated nose membrane can cause trouble when breathing and blocked nose that can last for days.
Even if you blow your nose hard it doesn't relieve the blockade.
Constant blowing can cause swelling, irritation and actually cause more damage than good.
These symptoms can be relieved by using a few simple items usually found in your kitchen.
- Salt gargling is very effective post nasal drip treatment.
It can be done by mixing ½ tablespoon of salt (I recommend using organic sea salt) in 1 glass of warm water.

Alternatively you can use a "Neti" pot.
- Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily to keep your body well hydrated.
Post nasal drip is caused due to dehydration too.
- The humidity in your house must always be high and stay same.
Therefore, one can keep a kettle of water on slow boil (make sure not to burn it).
