The amazing land diversity and differing altitude has given rise to many life forms in India.
The affinity with many zoo geographical regions has given rise to tremendous biodiversity that amazes one and all.
The list of mammals is impressive thanks to the above factors and so is the presence of avian species which constitute 13 percent of the World.
The major mammals are major attraction for wildlife lovers in India and outside.
India is home to both tiger and lion.
The tiger though dwindling in numbers is distributed over a wider range while the Asiatic Lion is limited to Gujarat.
The lion finds home in Gir National Park in the state of Gujarat.
The big cat is now found only in India and hence is endemic.
The tiger survives in many National Parks and Sanctuaries but is critically endangered.
Other star attractions are the Indian One Horned Rhino, Indian Elephant, Asiatic Wild Ass, Swamp Deer, Black Buck Antelope, Guar, Snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Red Panda and many more animals endemic to India.
The Bengal tiger survives in protected areas of India.
The animal attracts thousands of tourists from foreign countries and has hence created niche called tiger tourism.
Most popular places for tiger sightings in India are: Kanha Tiger Reserve Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve Pench Tiger Reserve Corbett Tiger reserve Ranthbhore National Park.
The big cat is present in many other protected areas but highest sightings take place in places mentioned above.
One Horned Rhino now survives in Kaziranga National Park besides Manas, Jaldapara, Pobitara, Dudha Tiger Reserve and some more places.
The India Elephant can be seen in a many places in North and Sothern India.
It is best seen in Corbett and Periyar Tiger Reserves.
Among other attractions are Hoolock Gibbon, Red Panda, Lion Tailed Macaque, Markhor, Takin, Serow, Nilgir Langur, Nilgir Tahr, Goral, Hog Deer, Golden Langur, Dhole, Bear, Indian Wolf, Gangetic River Dolphin, Pymy Hog, Musk Deer, Mouse Deer, Four Horned Deer and many more.
Common animals are Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Nilgai, Chinkara, Golden Jackal, Fox, Hanuman Langurs, Rhesus Macaque, Wild Boar and Sloth Bear.
These animals can be seen in protected areas and some reserve forests of Himalayan Foot Hills, Eastern India, Central Indian Highlands, Western India and South India.
Most of the protected areas in India have sound infrastructure for tourism.
Advance booking for travel and accommodations are advised.
In tiger reserve advance gate entry booking is a must since entry is limited to fixed number of jeeps for safari.
