What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a normal emotional state of human beings. Anxiety is defined as an affection similar to fear but, unlike this, not due to an external threatening stimuli, but is experienced as coming from the individual's psychic interiority. For European psychiatry anxiety concerns the startled expression of that affection.

Causes of Anxiety

Anxiety, like other feelings (pleasure, excitement, euphoria, ecstasy, sadness, anger, rage and calm), are central to people's lives; regulate interaction with others and provide an alarm system in the case of fear, serve to address situations of danger or risk.

These emotions, as well as perception and action, are controlled by neural circuits in the brain. In the specific case of trouble, his experience includes three types of components:

A cognitive component.
Replies autonomic, endocrine and skeletal-motor.
Subjective representations of the emotional state.
Two human emotions are very important in terms of the causes of anxiety: sexuality and aggression. However, in the description that people make of their trouble, can wield many reasons that have nothing to do with sexual or aggressive desires. Many patients, for example, feel puzzled at the fact that the cause of anxiety arises precisely when they are happier and have come up with the desired achievement. Others blame their state of abandonment of a loved one, bad luck in business, loneliness, harsh environments or failure of a project.

These complaints are manifest unconscious expression of separation trauma in the early stages of life, when the psychological development is incomplete, and the subject does not have sufficient elements to defend against the fear of losing their lives or be killed by hazards assumptions or real. Each new situation of abandonment or separation is bad now supported, to a seemingly banal everyday fact may be grounds to trigger the state of distress and be the cause of anxiety

According to behavioral theory, anxiety is a conditioned response to an environmental stimulus, the people affected by anxiety have sobregeneralizado their fears and learned, by imitation, to respond eagerly. Imitation similar responses comes from their parents, carers or significant figures, consequently, eager responses are ratings that exceed the hazardous situations, and underestimate their own abilities to address these threats.

Anxiety is a normal affection, its intensification, which becomes a source of suffering and disability, is what becomes pathological.
