Fundação Cultural Ema Gordon Klabin, in São Paulo, is a cultural foundation/museum which showcases the home and art collection of Brazilian businesswoman and benefactor Ema Gordon Klabin (1907-1994).
Amassed over the course of 40 years, the collection encompasses approximately 1,500 pieces from many historical periods. Highlights include works by some of the most important Brazilian artists of all time, such as Lasar Segall, Di Cavalcanti, Tarsila do Amaral, Candido Portinari and Vitor Brecheret.
The House:
The Foundation headquarters is a house Ema Gordon Klabin had designed by engineer/architect Alfredo Ernesto Becker in the mid-1950s, in a mix of classical and modern styles. Several of the house features, such as the gallery (see a photo by Erick Diniz) were specially planned around her art collection.
The house measures about 9,700 square feet and is surrounded by gardens. It is located in Jardim Europa, an upscale district of São Paulo designed by engineer and architect Hipólito Pujol Jr. in the late 1920s.

The foundation hosts great temporary exhibits and free musical performances once a month on different Saturdays at 4:30 p.m.: World Music and Musical Afternoons.
There's also Aulas de Mestre (Master Classes), a monthly meeting on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. with musicians and specialists focusing on great themes each time, such as the music of a specific artist. Admission is R$30; half-price tickets available.

How to Get There by Public Transportation:
The Foundation is about 12 blocks away from Consolação Subway Station, on the Green Line (Linha Verde). It's downhill, but still pretty far.
However, Consolação station is on the corner of Paulista Avenue and Augusta Street (Rua Augusta), which merges into Rua Colômbia and then into Europa Avenue. The Foundation is on the intersection of Europa and Portugal. Here's what you can do:
- Get off the subway at Consolação Station.
- Look for the closest stop on Augusta Street, going to Jardins (the southwest side).
- Take the 702P-42 bus (Butantã)and get off on the corner of Europa Ave. and Portugal Street.
Correction: Consolação Station is on the subway's Green Line, and not Blue Line as previously published.
Eva Klabin Foundation:
Ema Klabin's sister, Eva Klabin Rapaport (1903-1991), was also an art collector. You can visit her house at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in Rio de Janeiro.
