Teaching Your Kids How to Crossing the Street
Do you ever wonder how you were able to learn pedestrian safety rules? Thinking about it, you did not learn these lessons in school. If you have a child and you want to teach him about pedestrian safety rules, here are the tips you can know:
• When it comes to crossing the street, you have to let your kids understand that they need to cross it with an adult. This is because there is a pressing issue against tall cars and trucks which are unable to see children who cross the street. If your child is too short and a driver does not notice him, he might end up in the hospital (if you're lucky). This is why you have to really tell your kids that they should hold the arm of an adult whenever they cross the street.
• Aside from crossing the street with an adult, you need to teach your kids the proper time to cross the street as well as where they should do it. By example, teach them that you should not cross while the stop sign is flashing. Also, whenever you are crossing the street with them, take them to the pedestrian lane no matter how far it is.
• Before crossing, always look to the left and right. Even though you have already seen that there are no cars on either side of the street, you have to always be cautious and on guard. You'll never know if there are errant drivers who are rushing on the opposite way.
• Once you are crossing the street, teach your kids that it's not right to run. At the same time, walking slowly is not acceptable. Teach your kids how to walk briskly. Explain to your kids that if they run, this action can surprise drivers and might cause them to stop abruptly.
The above mentioned are only a few of the tips you can teach your kids on how to cross the street. However, it is best that you teach them how to do this through your own practices. By being a good example to your kids, you will be able to instill the values and lessons that you wish them to bring when they are already adults.
