Hockey is a fast-paced and exciting sport that interests many kids and teens. Hockey pucks are heavy, so it is important for young players to wear proper protective gear. If you have a child living in New Jersey that has interest in improving his hockey skills, then you're in luck. New Jersey offers many quality hockey camps. Going to camp can increase your child's chances of making the school team. - The Ice House is one of New Jersey's most well-known skating rinks. Located in Bergen County in the city of Hackensack, the rink offers hockey camp every summer. This weeklong camp experience is offered to players ages 6 to 14 all summer long. Campers can choose a half-day schedule in either the morning or afternoon or to do a full-day session with an hour lunch around noon. As of 2010, prices were $225 for a half-day session and $375 for a full-day session for skaters. If your child is interested in being a goaltender, the rates were adjusted to $50 for the half-day program and $100 for the full day. Be sure to send your child with their own skates and safety gear.
- Named for the legendary Philadelphia Flyers, the Flyers skate zone in Pennsauken is a favorite place to skate for South Jersey residents. In the summer, the venue is home to a middle school hockey camp. Camp takes place during the month of August and is attended by youths ages 11 to 14. The cost as of 2010 was $275 per player. In July, the venue also a junior camp for younger players ages 8 to 10. This camp session also costs $275 per child as of 2010 and will help younger players improve their basic hockey skills.
- The Ice Vault in Wayne, New Jersey offers one of the most special experiences in the state. Coaches at the Ice Vault summer hockey camps include famous players such as Zach Parise and Scott Stevens. Three types of camps are offered: defensive track, competitive and goalie/shooters. These programs are $600 for skaters and $300 for goalies as of 2010. Although more expensive than some of the other area camps, this camp provides your child with the chance to get training from some of the best players in the sport.
