    • 1). Click the "Start" button, right-click "Computer" and click "Properties" in the menu that appears. View the information displayed in the window that appears, and note whether the computer is a 32- or 64-bit system.

    • 2). Launch a Web browser and navigate to the Microsoft Support Web page for the hotfix (see Resources).

    • 3). Click the "Select" column check box that is in the same row as the Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system type you noted in Step 1. Type your email address in the "E-mail" text box and again in the "Confirm e-mail" text box. Type the characters that display in the "Picture" box into the "Type the characters" field. Click the "Request the hotfix" button.

    • 4). Access the email inbox for the email address you specified in Step 3. Open the "Hotfix download link you requested" email and read the instructions. Click on the "Location" link to download the hotfix file and save it to your computer.

    • 5). Double-click on the downloaded hotfix file. Click the "Run" button, if prompted. Enter the password provided in the "Hotfix download link you requested" email, if prompted, and press the "Enter" key. Click the "Continue" button to extract the file. Click the "OK" button to accept the default "C:" drive path extraction location. Click the "OK" button.

    • 6). Click the "Start" button on the taskbar, then click "Computer" and double-click the "C:" drive icon. Locate the "Windows6.1-KB2265716-x86.msu" file and double-click it to install the update. Reboot the computer.
