How to Calculate Cash Value for Bankruptcy

29
    • 1). Group your items into categories, such as kitchen items, electronics, furniture and personal goods.

    • 2). Consider what price you would set for large individual items in a garage sale or in a local newspaper. For example, even if you paid $2,000 for your television, you won't get that at a yard sale. Think of how much you would pay for it secondhand.

    • 3). Ask a consignment shop or thrift store how much it would list an item for if you were to donate it. Because these shops sell a lot of different types of items, they can give you an idea of what the market is for them.

    • 4). Take your high-quality jewelry, guns, antiques or other collectible items to a pawn shop or antique dealer. The pawn shop can look over your items and give you a reasonable indication of how much they are worth.

    • 5). Call an appraiser if you have items that you are unsure about, such as antiques. An appraiser can give you an insurance value as well as an idea of how much the item would sell for on the open market.

    • 6). Make a list of your different items and their values. Items like pots and pans or utensils can be grouped together and given a group value rather than being listed individually.
