How to Melt Iron Metal
- 1). Place your iron metal inside your crucible. If not all of your iron scraps fit, start with what will fit and melt the rest in subsequent batches.
- 2). Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda over the iron in the crucible.
- 3). Set the flame on your butane torch at 2800 degrees Fahrenheit. Put your protective gloves on.
- 4). Apply the flame to the iron, holding the torch about 3 inches from the crucible. Watch the iron melt completely.
- 5). Lift your crucible with the crucible tongs. Pour the melted iron from the crucible into a mold to form it into the desired shape.
- 6). Repeat the process with the rest of your iron scraps as needed.
