How to Lower Your LDL Cholestererol

8
    • 1). See your doctor. High cholesterol has no symptoms and requires regular screening to detect.

    • 2). Eat heart-healthy foods such as oatmeal, prunes, kidney beans, apples and pears, which are high in cholesterol-lowering soluble fiber. Fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce cholesterol and lower blood pressure.

    • 3). Exercise. The Mayo Clinic recommends 30 to 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity a day, as approved by your doctor.

    • 4). Continue monitoring your cholesterol. If your cholesterol levels are a concern, your doctor will keep track of your progress.

    • 5). Take medication. When diet and exercise fail to lower your cholesterol to safe levels, your doctor may prescribe a cholesterol-lowering medication such as Lipitor.
