The field of accounting continues to grow rapidly. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the job market for accountants will expand by 22 percent from 2008 to 2018, faster than the average for all professions. Students attending college in Colorado have a number of options to pursue accounting degrees. - The University of Colorado's Leeds School of Business in Boulder offers a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. Students take a minimum of 18 hours in accounting courses to complete this specialization. Those intending to move on to the master's level and take the CPA exam are encouraged to take 27 hours (the number required to sit for the exam in Colorado). The Leeds school also offers a master's degree in accounting. The program has two primary areas of emphasis: financial accounting and taxation accounting. Students pursuing the bachelor's degree in business administration may work toward the master's at the same time and completing both degrees in a shortened time frame. Courses of study covered by the program include income taxation, accounting, advanced business law, financial statement analysis, international accounting, business risk and decision analysis and current issues in professional accounting, among others.

leeds.colorado.edu - Regis University in Denver, Colorado, also offers both bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting. Regis offers its accounting program in both online and classroom formats. Students can pursue a degree by taking classes in either five- or eight-week accelerated terms. The bachelor's degree program covers areas of study such as auditing, financial planning, budgeting and taxation. The master's degree is also offered in both classroom and online settings, but is available only in an eight-week format. The master's degree program covers additional areas such as changing tax laws, tightened financial reporting requirements and understanding new accounting pronouncements.

CCU offers a bachelor of science degree that is designed to accommodate the schedules of working adults. Students can attend evening or weekend classes; they can also pursue the degree entirely online if they choose to do so. The CCU program has three areas of focus: regulation, auditing and attestation and financial accounting and reporting. CCU offers classes in accounting at its satellite campuses, as well. These are located in Denver, Loveland, Colorado Springs and Grand Junction.
