Anna"s Hummingbird Range Map

10
Common Name: Anna's Hummingbird
Scientific Name: Calypte anna
Migration: Partial migrant. Some populations migrate but parts of the range are occupied year-round.

Habitat:

One of few North American hummingbirds to stay in its range within the United States year-round, the Anna's hummingbird has the most widespread range of all the resident hummingbirds. These birds prefer open woodland as well as cultivated habitats such as parks, gardens and orchards, and they are particularly attracted to eucalyptus trees.

They are easily found in urban and suburban areas where there are abundant flowering trees and plants, and they readily visit backyards where hummingbird feeders are provided.

In addition to its Pacific coastal range stretching from the northern Baja peninsula to the southern region of British Columbia, the Anna's hummingbird is found inland as far as southern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico, with very rare vagrant sightings further east in Texas and Louisiana. This bird's range has increased in recent decades thanks to the popularity of hummingbird gardening that provides additional food sources.
