On Monday, November 18, The Casting Society of America (CSA) announced the winners of the organization's 29th Annual Artios Awards honoring the art of the casting director and "Outstanding Achievement in Casting," awarded in 22 categories including film, television and theater. The CSA held simultaneous awards ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York City for the event, with celebrity presenters on both coasts.


The 2013 Honorees included: (New York) Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Michael J. Fox, who took home the New York Apple Award; and in L.A., Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, who received the Career Achievement Award, and Casting Director Linda Lowy, who was given the Hoyt Bowers Award.

Presented annually, the awards are given to CSA members using the criteria of originality, creativity and contribution of casting to the overall quality of a project. Named for the Greek word meaning "perfectly fitted," the Artios Awards were first given in 1985 to honor excellence in casting and was held at the Crystal Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel attended by 500 industry leaders. The first New York Artios awards were first given in 1988.

In motion picture casting, Mary Vernieu, Lindsay Graham, Diane Heery and Jason Loftus were honored for Silver Linings Playbook, Lora Kennedy for Argo, and in the independent categories, Douglas Aibel and Henry Russell Bergstein for Moonrise Kingdom (Independent - Comedy), Francine Maisler and Diana Guthrie for Mud (Independent - Drama), as well as Ronnie Yeskel for The Sessions, in the Low Budget Feature - Comedy or Drama category.

Television casting honorees included Judy Henderson, Lisa Mae Fincannon and Craig Fincannon for "Homeland" in the Television Series Drama category, and Jennifer Euston for "Girls," in the Television Series Comedy category. For New York Broadway and Theatre, Daniel Swee won for both Comedy (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike) and Drama (Golden Boy).

The ceremony was hosted in Los Angeles by Nicole Sullivan and in New York by Harvey Fierstein. LA presenters included Jake Gyllenhaal, Kerry Washington, Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Groff, Aisha Tyler, Liam James, Marg Helgenberger, Ana Ortiz and Constance Zimmer. In New York, awards were presented by Uzo Aduba, Keegan Allen, Hank Azaria, Orlando Bloom, Betsy Brandt, Danielle Brooks, Josh Charles, Gabriel Ebert, Richard Kind, Judith Light, Zosia Mamet, Emily Mortimer, Hannah Nordberg, Billy Porter, Carrie Preston, David Rasche, Condola Rashad, Corey Stoll, Daniel Sunjata, Aaron Tveit, and Samara Wiley, among others.
