  Recycling is a practice that was developed in light of our world's limited resources. Many communities(especially rural) have not yet developed a recycling program and may not have enough funding to sufficiently support one. By simply applying for a grant, you have the chance to bring recycling to your community and support the change in nearby communities as well. Through meeting with local concerned citizens and politicians, you can draft a grant proposal that clearly identifies your area's specific recycling needs.

  This grant program provides recycling bins free of charge to accepted applicants. Eligibility conditions for the grant also includes "establishing or enhancing a recycling collection program," meaning that it's possible to qualify for the creation of, or an upgrade to, a recycling center. At the least you can convince the neighbors across the street to reduce their weekly pile of trash bags.

  The EPA funds recycling grants to programs whose general focus is to reduce waste, increase recycling or clean up open dumping. Bringing the attention of this agency requires a grant that will have wide reaching implications that effectively achieve one of their goals for the protection of the environment. An example of a recycling center grant they have granted is called "From Grassroots to Green: Recycling Coalition of Utah." This project in addition to addressing several environmental issues created a recycling program. This program created means for the recycling market to survive by "creating a centralized collection site for recycled materials, and sharing in the transportation of collected materials to nearest market." This basically ensures that the collecting, processing, and transportation of the recyclables will be paid for.   Most states have a department that is in control of waste management and recycling. Look online or call your recycling companies to find out more. An example of a local recycling program that was recently funded is the Angle of Shavano Chafee County Recycling Container Expansion Project with a grant total of $77,815. This grant was for the purchase of recycling containers to improve recycling rates throughout the Chaffee county area.
