How to Make Skirts of the 1950s
- 1). Choose a 1950s poodle skirt pattern.
- 2). Measure your waist. Determine how long the skirt needs to be. Typically, '50s skirts reach 2 or 3 inches below the knee.
- 3). Select the fabric. Poodle skirts are made from thick material such as felt.
- 4). Pin the pattern sections in place. Cut each out.
- 5). Cut the waistband. Take your waist size and add about 5/8 inch for the seam and 1 to 1-1 /2 inches for a buttonhole tab.
- 6). Fold the waistband fabric in half. Press. Attach it to the skirt's waist.
- 7). Stitch the seams according to the pattern directions.
- 8). Leave an opening in the upper back seam for a zipper. Stitch the zipper into place.
- 9). Hem the skirt. If you use felt, a bottom hem is unnecessary.
