20
Save Marriage Alone Marriage is not easy, more times than not, it's hard.
Any successful marriage takes commitment and dedication to do the hard stuff, like talking about problems.
Sometimes when problems or crises hits, you may feel like you are on your own.
If your spouse is unwilling to talk about problems or even admit there is one, it will appear it's up to you to save your marriage alone.
No matter what the situation is the pressure really is on you to help save the marriage.
There are two reasons for this: One being you can only change yourself.
Changing someone else just can't be done, even your spouse, no matter how much you want to.
The other reason is, when you make changes to yourself, your spouse will inevitably change also.
Changing the dynamics of the relationship will cause your spouse to adjust in one way or another.
Make positive changes, and your spouse may make some positive changes also.
You may just end up creating a new relationship where your spouse is more open to communication, and it will no longer feel like you have to save marriage alone after all.
Remember it takes two to tangle, and when there is a conflict in a relationship of any kind, the best thing you can do is step back and look at yourself and see how you could be contributing.
Problems are rarely one persons fault.
If your spouse is treating you badly, ask yourself why it's happening.
Maybe your spouse really is a jerk, but if it has been happening on a consistent basis, you are allowing it to occur.
The truth of the matter is we teach people how to treat us.
If you need to save marriage alone you must ask yourself what things you are doing that have taught your spouse to react to you or treat you in certain ways.
Respect yourself and demand respect for yourself from others.
Letting anyone disrespect you teaches them they can continue to treat you in that manner.
This doesn't mean you are the cause of your spouse's bad behavior.
He is responsible for his actions.
How you react is your responsibility as well as your attitude.
But if you desire to save marriage alone, begin by making changes in your reaction and or your attitude.
What you've been doing up until now hasn't worked, so doing something different can't hurt.
You have the power to save marriage alone.
By making changes in your attitude, behaviors and how you react to situations in the relationship, you will make a major impact on your marriage.
The trick is determining which changes will cause the positive changes you desire.
You may need to seek the help of a skilled therapist to help you determine what changes will be the most beneficial.
But there is hope, even when you must save marriage alone, as long as you are willing to make some changes to yourself first.
