How to Attach a Texas Deer Mount to Wood
- 1). Clean the skull thoroughly, using a knife to remove the flesh and a bath in boiling water and peroxide to loosen remaining flesh and then bleach the skull. Once the skull is mounted, cleaning is difficult, making it important that it is thoroughly ready before mounting.
- 2). Spray the skull with a protective coating of finishing spray, such as a clear varnish.
- 3). Sand the back of the base of the skull with a power sander, creating a flat section at the base of the skull.
- 4). Position the skull in its desired location on the mounting plaque.
- 5). Drill through the back of the plaque behind where the flat section of skull is resting and through the skull. Use four holes to secure the skull.
- 6). Screw through the back of the plaque and into the skull through the holes drilled.
