How to End Icicles in the Gutters
- 1). Measure the depth of the insulation in your attic. You will need to add insulation until the depth across the entire surface of the attic is 6 inches.
- 2). Take a piece of insulation up into your attic and unroll it. Lay the insulation into the gap between floor joists. Make sure it butts up tight against the edge of the joist where the roof begins. Continue laying insulation in the joist gaps until you can no longer lay a full piece.
- 3). Measure the distance from the edge of the last laid piece of insulation to the end of the joist gap. Transfer this measurement to an unrolled piece of insulation. Cut the insulation to the required length using a utility knife. Stuff the cut piece into the gap.
- 4). Cut insulation back at least 3 inches from recessed lighting and chimneys. If possible, lay the insulation underneath any electrical wires. Do not cover any heat producing equipment found in the attic.
