The Top Ten Reasons Why Smoking is Bad and Why You Should Stop Today

10
There are so many reasons why smoking is bad, no one should ever start.
However, for people who did start either at a young age or in a moment of foolishness, the top ten reasons why smoking is bad should remind them why it is essential to quit smoking as soon as possible.
1.
Lung cancer - has been definitively linked to smoking.
The toxins that you inhale with each puff of smoke are carcinogens that lead to cell mutation and, chances are, you will eventually develop a malignant growth.
If you smoke your entire life you are 23 more times more likely to die of lung cancer than a non-smoker.
2.
Emphysema - is also caused primarily by smoking.
Most cases of emphysema are found in men aged 55 plus who have been lifelong smokers.
The same carcinogens and tar that cause lung cancer also decreases the elasticity of the small sacs in your lungs called alveoli.
If your lungs aren't elastic you can't breathe properly and will eventually die of suffocation.
3.
Pneumonia and bronchitis - both of these diseases effect smokers and people who inhale your second hand smoke.
The particles produced by smoking get into your lungs and irritate the lining of the walls.
Your body's natural response is to create mucus to coat the irritant.
Too much mucus ends up causing respiratory diseases like pneumonia and bronchitis.
4.
Asthma in your children - smoking during pregnancy can cause all kinds of carcinogen-based birth defects including lung problems in your newborn.
Early exposure to smoke can lead to early respiratory infections and increased respiratory infections are known to hasten the onset of asthma.
Smoke will also trigger asthma attacks.
5.
Heart disease - smoking causes fatty deposits to build up in your arteries, a condition called atherosclerosis.
The more your arteries are constricted the greater your chance of a heart attack.
6.
Yellowing teeth - the tar in cigarettes builds up on your teeth the more you smoke and causes actual staining to the enamel.
This is a deep stain that brushing and whitening products can't fix.
7.
Damaged taste buds - the same carcinogens that go to work in your lungs also cause damage to your sensitive taste buds.
Smoking numbs your sense of taste both while you're smoking and for hours after each cigarette.
8.
Bad breath - it stands to reason that if smoking hurts your taste buds and your teeth, your breath will also suffer.
Smokers, even smokers who use mouthwash or chew gum, still have state, smoky breath.
9.
Stained fingers - the tar that stains your teeth will also stain your fingers.
Most lifelong smokers have brown stains between the two fingers they use to hold their cigarette.
10.
Huge expenditures - a very conservative estimate puts the cost of buying a pack of cigarettes a day at $912.
50.
This assumes that you are only paying $2.
5 a pack.
It can be double that in some urban areas.
