How to Troubleshoot a Mac PC
- 1). Check your connections. Make sure that the power cords and other cables are properly and firmly attached to their respective ports. Turn off the computer, disconnect all external devices attached to your Mac and turn it back on. Connect the external devices one at a time and test them all. If your Mac fails to boot up after connecting a device, it might be causing the conflict with the system, causing the computer not to boot up.
- 2). Restart the computer when it stops responding. Press “Option” and “Command” and “Escape” to “force quit.” Press “Control” and “Command” and “Power” to restart or hold down the power button for ten seconds to “force shut down.”
- 3). Troubleshoot problems related to your network/Internet connection. Check the status of your Internet connection. Select “System Preferences” from the Apple menu, and then “Network” to show the “Network Preferences.” Select “Network Status” from the “Show” pop-up menu. For each network port, a color symbolizes its status. Green means the network/Internet connection is active while red means that the network is not connected.
- 4). Make sure that your Internet connection is active. Turn off the modem, wait about 20 seconds, and then turn it back on. Open a web browser and visit a website to see if the Internet connection is back to normal. If this doesn’t help, other factors may have affected your Internet connection. Navigate to “Network Preferences” (See Step 3) and then “Network Diagnostics.” Follow the instructions that will help you troubleshoot the problem you are having.
