How to Prepare My Child for the Florida Writes
- 1). Look at examples of your child's writing. Check to see if he stayed on topic. If not, encourage him to do so.
- 2). Show your child how to organize on-topic thoughts in an outline. Model how to use the outline notes to write an on-topic response to a simple prompt, such as "Should children wear uniforms to school?"
- 3). Ask your child's teacher if there is any way to help your child prepare. Your child will be preparing for the Florida WRITES! at school. This will most likely be all the preparation she needs. If not, the teacher can let you know which facet of the process she is struggling on and how you can help.
- 4). Tell your child he must go to sleep at a reasonable time the night before the test so he is well-rested on test day.
- 5). Prepare a healthy, fuel-packed breakfast the morning of the test so she has energy to concentrate.
- 6). Reassure your child that he will do a good job to calm any nervous feelings he may be experiencing.
