Towns to Visit Around Woolacombe

The holiday village of Woolacombe in North Devon is a very popular tourist destination and is great for any family holiday.
You may end up spending all your time on the beach or in the village but there are some great towns and villages close by that you should take the time to explore.
In this article we are looking briefly at some of these fantastic North Devon towns and villages.
Appledore This sleepy village has a rich history as a port town dating back to the 14th century when monks created a settlement there.
The village has been used throughout time as an important port, and played a part in the Armada where it was used to provide men and ships to battle the Spanish fleets.
These days' visitors can visit the Maritime Museum and wander the small shops that add charm to the area.
Braunton The village of Braunton is said to be the largest village in Britain, but whether it is or not, it is still a great place to visit.
There are various shops to visit that focus on the Surf scene like Woolacombe.
The village is home to the renowned Squires fish and chip shop.
The fish is what the restaurant and take away is known for, but why not try the delicious chicken in a bun special.
On the outskirts of Braunton are the burrows, which is massive area of sand dunes that is great for walking and exploring.
Westward Ho! This village has quite a few claims to fame, it is the only place in the UK with an! in it's name, it was named after a Charles Kingsley book and is home to the oldest Golf course in the country.
If you enjoyed the beautiful expanse that was Braunton Burrows, then you are bound to enjoy Northam Burrows which is 1000 acres of land for your enjoyment.
If you are on holiday with your pet dog, why not take them to one of the Burrows for a tiring walk.
