How to Do the Air Flare

    • 1). Find a place with a clean, soft-yet-firm floor, like the inside of a gymnasium.

    • 2). Practice doing headstands and shoulderstands until you build sufficient muscle power to lift your body and gain enough balance to hold it there.

    • 3). Stand with your feet shoulder width apart.

    • 4). Step back with your left foot to more than a shoulder width, but keep your weight on your right leg.

    • 5). Swing your right arm and hand around to the left side of your body and plant it firmly in the ground.

    • 6). At the same time your right hand comes to the ground, swing your left leg into the air, as if performing a handstand --- but instead of coming all the way up, let it kick out and flare behind you.

    • 7). As soon as your left hand goes down and your right leg goes up, release your right hand and spin counterclockwise on your left hand.

    • 8). Spin for about 90 degrees, using the momentum to lift up your right leg as well. All of your body weight should be on your left hand for a split second, and both legs should be flaring in the air.

    • 9). Plant your right hand in the ground, and use your torso to keep your legs flaring around you. Your torso should continue to provide the force for the turning as you continue to spin on your hands, alternating them as you go.
