The Door Guard
Most individuals seem to dislike telemarketers and door to door solicitors.
There may be many different reasons for the dislike.
Usually, most people just seem to not have an interest in whatever is being promoted or sold.
Typically the notion, "I just don't want to waste my time or money on something I don't need" is why we loathe those pesky salespersons.
As we all know, sometimes you do take the call or open the door and give the poor sales representative the benefit of the doubt.
There are several different clever pitches that help influence you in giving them a minute of your valuable time.
We have heard it all; from help support our veterans of war to you can't really be safe without a credit card protection plan.
It is a careful art form meant to persuade you into doing what you normally would not.
Every now and then, you bite and before you know it, you are happy you did, or you regret it for a long time.
People are being manipulated through sales and marketing techniques, which is a studied science.
In psychology this is called, "Foot-in-the-door phenomenon or Foot-in-the-door technique.
" It is a process of a compliance tactic that involves getting a person to agree to a large request by first setting them up and having them agree to a modest request.
Politicians and media professionals are well aware of theses tactics.
They study our habits, lifestyles, culture and dedicate all their efforts to achieving their goals.
Huge amounts of time and money are invested in researching the benefits of different tactics with the objective to have you support their agendas.
How successfully they are implemented could decide the outcome of future events.
How you will vote, what you will believe and buy is influenced by what you let in the door of your mind.
Could you open the door and not be exposed or influenced? The answer sadly is no.
Now how you react to the exposure is determined by your beliefs.
We all are a sum total of our culture, upbringing, education, experiences and beliefs.
The most powerful of them all is our beliefs.
It is also the most vulnerable to change.
Once our beliefs change, all else does as well.
It is when the beliefs and behaviors of those we disagree with begin a movement of transformation from good to bad, normal to abnormal, or natural to unnatural that then we must stand guard.
We see some positives but mostly negatives in society from our change in beliefs.
If we continue to dare to open the door to beliefs that are not right, who will dare close it to any? How will the opening be used by others to implement further change? Giving a passionate salesperson or politician the opportunity to rent space in your mind for a moment is like opening the doorway.
If you allow it for a prolonged period, it is like having them put their foot in the opening.
This makes it practically impossible to close the door once introduced.
If at first they don't successes, they will try and try again, so beware and do not entertain the inappropriate ever.
We seem to not have a clear belief of what is right and wrong.
Determining what is right is not subjective.
To believe it is, is to have an unrealistic belief that there are no negative consequences to our inappropriate actions.
We must have absolutes in life, if not then society will move towards anarchy at some point.
If everyone continues to do whatever feels right to them, the outcome will eventually be social chaos.
That may sound radical to believe but as an example, 100 years ago it would have sounded radical for anyone to promote same sex marriages.
In 2000, President Bill Clinton proclaimed June to be Gay and Lesbian Pride Month in the United States, and on June 1, 2009, President Barack Obama proclaimed June to be Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride month.
In 2010, Gays where granted the freedom to serve openly in the US Military and in April 2011, the US Navy is considered allowing same sex marriages performed on military bases by Chaplains until some members of Congress raised concern.
Sadly, if we do not reverse course, it will not be long before currently recognized organizations that promote sex with children will have their political voices heard and satisfied.
The California State Senate introduces a Bill in 2011, including Gay History as a requirement in public schools.
The examples sited above are a glimpse of the whole picture of allowing the door of our mind to be open to the inappropriate.
We must stand guard at the doorway.
