Two modern horror powerhouses are joining forces for an upcoming TV show airing on, of all channels, WEtv. Eli Roth, director of Cabin Fever and Hostel and producer of The Last Exorcism and Hemlock Grove, and Jason Blum, producer of Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister and The Purge, are teaming up to produce South of Hell, with Roth scheduled to direct the premiere episode.
The show revolves around a Savannah, Georgia woman named Maria, a "stunning, 30-year-old demon-hunter-for-hire. Alongside her brother, David, she is skilled and fearless in her pursuit of the demons that live in others. Like those that she hunts, Maria is divided within herself, struggling with her own demon, Abigail, who resides inside of her, feeding on the evil Maria exorcises from others."
Although WEtv is known more for reality TV fare like Bridezillas and Marriage Boot Camp, the female-targeted cable channel is moving into scripted programming this July with the legal drama The Divide and with South of Hell, which is set to begin its eight-episode run in 2015.
